August 31 2010 | Continuing with the sea

So after having been doing this plaster sea I did a siliconform around it and pour in some lightly coloured resin.. here I am unmolding it

(looks like i am going a bit fast here..)

Let's try to fix those waves on the base. i had to trim thewaves on the underside near the pierced metal plate because those were too highso I pinned that area down while "painting" the surface with moreresin

here are now some acrylic gel to do the waves as well assome first post shading of the waves -as you can see there is stronger colournear the metal..

So well, it looks like I am almost finished except for oneor two extra layer of resin to smooth down the waves, repainting of partstouched by plaster etc.

Still a bit of time before completion will be needed, essentially because i found out it takes me 1 hour + to paint one singleseagull, 1 and the half hour + when the wings are opened. sheesh..

August 30 2010 | Resin water and waves

What you can see here is the second layer of resin alreadyas the first was used as a sealant -indeed I didn't trust that much my plasticbox!

Its use is to present a sort of flat surface so that after Ican model some waves on the top of it,

here is the plastic shape above which i will sculpt somewaves,

August 26 2010 | Plaster is great

Plaster is great.

no really it is. Here I can airbrush the plaster with harshdiluted colours and it won't stain too much the boat when I accidentally sprayon it..

I built layers of yellow/grey tints under the cabin andeverywhere the sun doesn't shine of the diorama.

well, then it doesn't look much like a beach so let's soakthe plaster with water which will allow me to "draw" some waves onthe sand with another coat of plaster.

those were drawn with an acrylic brush -the orange oneswhich are stronger and more suitable for the job. It's quite hard to get adecent job still -especially at the place where the metal meets the sand.

and here is the result

Time to paint all over again :)

August 25 2010 | The beach is made of plaster

On with the beach..

here I am tainting the plaster with acrylics

let's position every element on the plaster -argh, let's becareful as the first position must be the last as otherwise the plaster willstick on the boat!

okay, phew, let's trim the plaster in the best possible way
