May 03 2009 | Where will it stand?

Now don't believe he will be dancing ballet or something, he is sort of holding for dear life!

As you may notice I am not the best sculptor on earth, but if I design the figs last, its postion might be so well suited to the diorama that i can make up for a few fails!

May 06 2009 | White Colour

Now it's the time to repaint the hull. I have been buying at Ikea one of those turning wooden things that you use on dinner tables. i put the diorama on it and then I can turn it and be able to paint it without having to touch the sea.

here is the colour I use for the white: white, black, yellow for the last screen and ..white ink! very co,nvenient for extra screening and to mix with paint once thoroughly diluted

May 10 2009 | Repainting the wood

It's sort of hard to explain or even to photograph what i am doing right now.

basically, I repaint all the hull of the boat while trying to have a better logic about the colours. Indeed i had set up a sort of direction of the light, but it was fairly unlogical in some places, especially at the right side, near the acoustic devices.

So i basically repainted everything, look at the pic and see how the woof seem to be quite colour saturated on the left, and desaturated on the right..

May 10 2009 | Left vs right

Hope it is more clear with this shot.

Of course, the rust and the white colour will be painted the same way..

May 12 2009 | Repainting the acoustic devices

When i was doing Galilée, i was told that the acoustic devices where indeed made of brass and were never painted. As I had to redo most of the stuff, I thought it would be pretty cool if I were about to paint them corrosion- green. I have been using a mix of black, white, green and blue on the highlights to get those effects

May 12 2009 | Microclear for the sea

Now if I didn't want to work the sea again, adding a bit of texture wouldn't be too bad. indeed when you look on some lights, you could see some resin run offs in some places.

So well, Microscale's microclear is a pretty good product to add some ripples on the top of the sea. it's pretty thick and when it starts to dry, I just touch the tip of the waves with a brush to get a nice texture.

May 13 2009 | Undercoating the figure with acrylics

I can't paint a fig completely with acrylics, so in fact i vaguely undercoat it first and then I apply some Windsor and Newton oils I have been offered in '94.

the thing to notice here is the direction of the light: on the back the sun will be shining, so the shadows wiill be done in a sort of orangey tint. Then on the other side of the shrit, i will use some colder colours to do the shadows;

I hope it works :)

May 18 2009 | Glass for the Galilée

i fi_nally convinced myself that i should buy some thin glass for binoculars to do some realistic shatters on the boat's windows, here they are
